Overview of Multiple Sclerosis
Our nervous system is covered with a myelin protein, which is also known as Myelin sheath. This myelin sheath helps to transport information from one nerve to another through transferring signaling.
The Multiple Sclerosis causes the neurodegenerative condition. Demyelination is the primary pathology responsible to obstruct transferring of the nerve signals or result complete blockage.
The metabolic disorder induced by autoimmune disorder gradually causes neurodegeneration. Due to the nervous system impacted by the immune system, immunoglobulin G (IgG) raises up in the cerebrospinal fluid.
Myths and facts about the use of Nigella sativa in Multiple Sclerosis
Some of us may confuse about the application of Nigella sativa in Multiple Sclerosis because Nigella sativa is well established as an immune booster, so as per the medical recommendation, the immune booster should not be administered in Multiple Sclerosis.
However, we have already discussed in above paragraph about the therapeutic effects of Nigella sativa in Multiple Sclerosis. There are several animal studies supporting the benefits of Nigella sativa in neurodegenerative conditions, including Multiple Sclerosis.
These studies not only explain how anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant property of Nigella sativa prevent Multiple Sclerosis but also showed the scope of treating Multiple Sclerosis due to its remyelinating effect.
To remove further confusion, it is necessary to explain that Nigella sativa and its active ingredient thymoquinone have an immunomodulatory therapeutic effect, which is achieved by enhancing the T cell and natural killer cell-mediated immune responses.
Clinical researchers believe that Nigella sativa and its active ingredients have a role on antigen presenting cells in dendritic cells and improve the immunotherapeutic application in autoimmune disorders.
It is also expected that N. sativa and thymoquinone modulate adaptive immune responses in cellular and humoral levels, and also has modulatory effects on Th1/Th2 paradigm, which controls inflammation in autoimmune disorders. [5, 6]
People mostly tried natural antioxidants supplements only in Multiple Sclerosis but the administration of Nigella sativa not only provide scavenging free radicals due to its potent anti-oxidant effect but also provide immunomodulatory therapeutic benefit, which is essential for treating neuronal inflammatory condition developed in Multiple Sclerosis.
In addition, cytokines imbalance that occurs in Multiple Sclerosis is one of the primary cause of inflammation in the nervous system. A higher dose of Nigella sativa concentrated thymoquinone extract provides a more precise balance of cytokines in Th1/Th2.
Testimony of Nigella sativa Oil in MS-affected patient
A patient suffering from Multiple Sclerosis shared her medical history and reports before and after application of Nigella sativa oil.
She is suffering from chronic multiple sclerosis and frequent attacks, which interfere her daily activities and she unable to continue her study due to excessive fatigue condition.
Her clinician also suggested her to adjust her life to the symptoms of MS, as this disease is incurable. Fortunately, she attended a pharmacy exhibition and where she came to know about the facts of black seed oil also known as Nigella sativa.
Though she had a doubt that black seed oil intake boosts immunity, which may interfere the auto-immune nature of MS. But she started using black seed oil with a belief that it will rectify the immune system disorder, as black seed oil has the potentiality to react with immune system mediators.
She orally administered black seed oil with a cup of orange juice to mask the hard taste of the black seed oil. Within three days continuing this recipe, her study capacity has been increased and after 15 days all the MS symptoms, including fatigue, chronic numbness etc completely rid off.
She continued the therapy and conducted periodic MRIs (Magnetic Resonance Imaging). MRI reports showed the significant improvements in the nervous system due to the use of black seed oil. Black seed oil normalized the structure of the ventricular system, no lesion progression in the CNS and she survived without MS attacks for last 7.5 years.
This case history supports that Nigella sativa (Black seed) has the potency to treat and prevent MS attacks.
I personally have suffered with MS and the side effects were so bad I did not even know where I lived or how to get home. I had hand tremors, memory problems and could not comprehend well. Lol, I flooded my home 12 times as I just could not remember to turn off the water.
I went on a completely natural diet with black cumin seed oil, lots of herbs like turmeric, fennel, garlic and took lots of vitamins too. In 3 weeks I had reversed all symptoms.
